University of Ibadan Postgraduate Programmes & Requirements 2024/2025 Session

The management of the University of Ibadan postgraduate school – UI PGS has approved the list of all available postgraduate (PG) courses that are currently offered in the institution for 2024/2025 academic session. Every PG programme offered in UI (University of Ibadan) come with their unique admission requirements, however, there are some basic compulsory general entry requirements for fresh candidates which must be adhered to in the process of application and registration.

The University of Ibadan till date is popularly acclaimed the best university currently boast of the best postgraduate school in Nigeria, judging from the ranking of the top 10 universities in Nigeria with the best school of postgraduate studies.

Talking about the University of Ibadan (UI) post graduate school, courses offered and requirements It is no news that the university of Ibadan (UI) being the premier University in Nigeria was established in 1945.

Currently there are 11 faculties in the University of Ibadan which includes College of Medicine Arts, Science, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture and Forestry, Social Sciences, Education, Technology, Law, Dentistry and Public Health under UI’s school of postgraduate studies.

UI PG Admission Requirements For All PG Programmes 2024/2025 Academic Session

For all UI postgraduate aspirants, please take note of the following requirements below, it is important you have this at your finger tips even before choosing a graduate course;

i) Candidates apply for PGD at UI must be a graduate of the University of Ibadan or any other university recognized by the senate of UI. Also, admission shall be given by UI school of postgraduate studies on the recommendation of the appropriate postgraduate committee.

ii) Candidates without any previous higher degrees in any of the relevant programmes listed below shall be admitted only to either the Degree of Master or Professional Degree of Masters

iii) Thirdly, candidates with recognized “Research Higher” Degree in the relevant disciplines may also be admitted to the M.Phil or Ph.D degree programmes as deemed necessary, based on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty PG Committee.

iv) In a case where an eligible candidate with a higher degree and strong recommendation for admission into Ph.D programmes cannot be made, the faculty may otherwise recommend that such candidate be admitted provisionally to the M.Phil/Ph.D programme pending the conclusion of the candidate’s assessment report. The Faculty postgraduate committee shall set up a panel to look into the matter which must take effect before the end of the first semester of registration.

Please note that the above applies to both full time and part time PG candidates.

UI postgraduate school offers three types of Admission based on your preferred postgraduate programme that suits your need and fits your timing. See below for the 3 types of PG admission and their requirements.

  3. Admission As Occasional Students

Full-Time Admission

Full-Time admission are offered to candidates who have satisfied the postgraduate school with proofs that they are not currently in a paid employment or that they have been relieved off their jobs or released by their employer to undertake full-time  PG studies. Please note that Candidates who are found wanting by making a false declaration will be expelled from the university.

Part-Time Admission

Candidates may be admitted on part time basis at UI Pg school on the following grounds;

a) If he or she is an academic staff of UI

b) If he or she can satisfy the PG school that facilities for their work as part-time students are adequate.

c) If such candidate can shows a proof or evidence of release of their jobs by their employers duly signed.

Admission As Occasional Students

Candidates can only be admitted on this ground should they meet the minimum entry requirements for higher degree programmes and are recommended by the appropriate body (UI Faculty Postgraduate Committee). Such category of candidate may be admitted for higher degrees from other states, private or Federal universities duly recognized by the Senate.

Duration For All Postgraduate Courses At Offered At UI

The info here contains details of the duration of all available pg programme offered at UI – University of Ibadan under PGD, M.Sc and Ph.D level, either regular (full time) or weekend (Part time) programmes, the expected duration of your programmes can be seen below, same applies to all postgraduate programmes.

Postgraduate Courses at UIDuration of PG Programmes
a) M.A/ M.ScMinimum of two (4) Academic Sessions and Maximum of Three (6) Academic Sessions
b) MPA/ MBAMinimum of 4 semesters and a maximum of 6 semesters
c) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)Minimum of four (4) Academic Session and Maximum of six (6) Academic Session.
d) Doctor of PhilosophyMinimum of 6 academic Semesters and a maximum of 10 Semesters

Please note the following:

  • M.Sc in University of Ibadan is 18months
  • You can obtain UI Postgraduate form when it is out from the university or apply online from UI PG portal
  • Candidates would sit for English test and must score above cut-off mark of 40
  • Candidates would also sit for departmental test if score he or she scores above 40 in the English test
  • Wait for recommendation from the university
  • Pay your acceptance fee of 30,000 Naira, School fees and other compulsory fees
