The management of the University of Ibadan postgraduate school – UI PGS has approved the list of all available postgraduate (PG) courses that are currently offered in the institution for 2025/2026 academic session. Every PG programme offered in UI (University of Ibadan) come with their unique admission requirements, however, there are some basic compulsory general entry requirements for fresh candidates which must be adhered to in the process of application and registration.
The University of Ibadan till date is popularly acclaimed the best university currently boast of the best postgraduate school in Nigeria, judging from the ranking of the top 10 universities in Nigeria with the best school of postgraduate studies.
Talking about the University of Ibadan (UI) post graduate school, courses offered and requirements It is no news that the university of Ibadan (UI) being the premier University in Nigeria was established in 1945.
Currently there are 11 faculties in the University of Ibadan which includes College of Medicine Arts, Science, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture and Forestry, Social Sciences, Education, Technology, Law, Dentistry and Public Health under UI’s school of postgraduate studies.
It ha become a norm that upon graduation, newly graduated students and currently serving youth corpers who aspire to further their education at UI come up with the following questions; What are the list of available Postgraduate courses offered in UI? What are the admission requirements for PGD, Masters programmes (Academic or Non-academic), and Ph.D programmes at UI?, Can i apply for UI Postgraduate programme as a serving Youth Corper? often times, they make enquiries about the duration of the above postgraduate courses, however we included all requirements and all necessary information in this post in order to give full details as regards UI postgraduate courses and their admission requirements.

Judging from the list of PG programmes offered in UI as seen below, you would agree with us that all categories of PG courses are offered in the institution ranging from Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes, Masters and Ph.D programmes therefore, aspiring students or better put, applicants should be rest assured that any information gotten in this post, as we are confident it will be of great help in making an informed decision as regards which of the postgraduate courses is best tailored to suit your intended career path.
UI PG Admission Requirements For All PG Programmes 2025/2026 Academic Session
For all UI postgraduate aspirants, please take note of the following requirements below, it is important you have this at your finger tips even before choosing a graduate course;
i) Candidates apply for PGD at UI must be a graduate of the University of Ibadan or any other university recognized by the senate of UI. Also, admission shall be given by UI school of postgraduate studies on the recommendation of the appropriate postgraduate committee.
ii) Candidates without any previous higher degrees in any of the relevant programmes listed below shall be admitted only to either the Degree of Master or Professional Degree of Masters
iii) Thirdly, candidates with recognized “Research Higher” Degree in the relevant disciplines may also be admitted to the M.Phil or Ph.D degree programmes as deemed necessary, based on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty PG Committee.
iv) In a case where an eligible candidate with a higher degree and strong recommendation for admission into Ph.D programmes cannot be made, the faculty may otherwise recommend that such candidate be admitted provisionally to the M.Phil/Ph.D programme pending the conclusion of the candidate’s assessment report. The Faculty postgraduate committee shall set up a panel to look into the matter which must take effect before the end of the first semester of registration.
Please note that the above applies to both full time and part time PG candidates.
UI postgraduate school offers three types of Admission based on your preferred postgraduate programme that suits your need and fits your timing. See below for the 3 types of PG admission and their requirements.

Full-Time Admission
Full-Time admission are offered to candidates who have satisfied the postgraduate school with proofs that they are not currently in a paid employment or that they have been relieved off their jobs or released by their employer to undertake full-time PG studies. Please note that Candidates who are found wanting by making a false declaration will be expelled from the university.
Part-Time Admission
Candidates may be admitted on part time basis at UI Pg school on the following grounds;
a) If he or she is an academic staff of UI
b) If he or she can satisfy the PG school that facilities for their work as part-time students are adequate.
c) If such candidate can shows a proof or evidence of release of their jobs by their employers duly signed.
Admission As Occasional Students
Candidates can only be admitted on this ground should they meet the minimum entry requirements for higher degree programmes and are recommended by the appropriate body (UI Faculty Postgraduate Committee). Such category of candidate may be admitted for higher degrees from other states, private or Federal universities duly recognized by the Senate.
Duration For All Postgraduate Courses At Offered At UI
The info here contains details of the duration of all available pg programme offered at UI – University of Ibadan under PGD, M.Sc and Ph.D level, either regular (full time) or weekend (Part time) programmes, the expected duration of your programmes can be seen below, same applies to all postgraduate programmes.

But you cannot be admitted into UI Postgraduate school because one of the major requirements for admission into the school is NYSC discharge certificate which currently you do not have. So that’s the challenge. I would suggest you wait until your NYSC discharge certificate is out before you can apply.

No Sir it is not possible. One of the major PG requirement to study at UI is NYSC certificate, if you do not have this, you are automatically not eligible to apply

Sir, I obtained the following qualifications GCE, NCE, B.A.ED and M.Ed. During our school days in the 80s a credit in English at ‘o’ level is not part of the admission requirement or is not a most. People like me who are about to retire but not tired still want further their studies and when I applied into your University I was asked to bring a credit in English. Will it not be ridiculous my M.Ed is reading 1999 and my ‘o’ level is reading 2019. Which is the qualification for the admission into Ph.D programme is it the Masters Degree or NECO/WAEC?

A candidate shall be asked to withdraw if he has not fulfilled the requirements for award of the 86 degree after a maximum of 5 semester of full-time and 7 semesters for part-time.

If you want to run MBA, you can apply straight up, you do not need to run a PGD programme first. Simply apply and write the required test and when your name comes out, you are good to go.

Hello Blessing, Unfortunately, there is no Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Economics in the University of Ibadan. But UI accepts HND for their postgraduate programmes. They give equal opportunities to both HND and B.Sc degree holders. Thank you.

A 3rd class graduate would have to pick up a PGD form first. After PGD he or she can then proceed to M.Sc level
Someone had 3rd class in first Degree in B. A. English and have done PGDE in Adult education at UI please can she do Masters in Education at UI? Because I heard bcos of her 3rd class in first Degree she can’t do Masters again in UI even with her PGDE
