Omah Lay is a young talented Nigerian songwriter and singer. He has been in the music industry since January 2020, after his songs ‘You’ and ‘bad influence’ brought him to the limelight.


His real name is Stanley Omah Didia. His stage name ‘Omah Lay’ was derived from combining his real name Omah, and “Lay” which he said is a word from his local dialect used to describe someone faraway. He was born in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State in southern Nigeria, and he is a native of Ikwerre. He was born on May 19, 1997. He comes from a family with a musical background as his grandfather was a percussionist for Celestine Ukwu, who was a popular Igbo highlife musician in the 60s. Omah Lay’s father was also a drummer, but he was not as popular as his grandfather was, but he was known to conquer the drums and was a local legend in their hometown.

Omah Lay started his musical career as a teenager on the streets of Marine Base, Port Harcourt city. He went by the moniker Lil King and participated in some street rap battles and performances. He then proceeded to produce music locally in the early days of 2019. The records he produced got positive reviews from OAPs and local critics, and it got massive radio spins. Little or no credit was given to him for writing and producing those jams, so he decided to perform his written songs himself. That same year he wrote and recorded his songs “do not disturb” and “hello brother” and they were played on the local radio stations. These songs were enjoyed by the masses and got a lot of nice reviews and radio spins. It got the attention of prominent record labels and after much deliberation, in July 2019 he decided to sign up with the record label known as KeyQaad. Then he moved from Rivers state to Lagos state, to take his career to the next level. After that, he got signed into another record label known as Dvpper Music. The record label was owned by Damilola Akinwunmi. In 2020, sometime in January he first released his single track “bad influence” which reached a wider range of audience and it became an internet sensation due to its unique style. ‘Bad influence’ got millions of streams on all streaming outlets, and this was a good boast in his career. Then on the 14th of February, he released his first official single ‘You’ which thrilled his audience. He then released his first debut EP themed “Get Layd” which contained 5 tracks, including “bad influence” and “You” on the 22nd of May, 2020.

He got signed in to another record label on the 9th of November, 2020. The name of the record label he got signed in to is Warner music group under Sire records, and he has been working with them to date. Afterwards, he released another EP titled “What have we done” on the 20th of November, 2020.


In a space of 2 years, Omah Lay has released two albums named “Get layd” and “What Have We Done”, along with some singles too. He has featured in some prominent Nigerian artists’ songs like Olamide, and Dj Spinall.

Omah Lay won the next rated award at the 14th edition of The Headies Awards which was held on the 21st February 2021, at La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State. Aside from that, he was also nominated for The Headies award in the following categories:
