Aṣa was born in Paris to Nigerian parents who were working and studying cinematography in France. Her family returned to reside in Nigeria when she was two. Aṣa grew up in Lagos city, in the south-western region of Nigeria, and 18 years later, returned to Paris, where her life as an artist took off.
Asa’s music influences grew over the years from the gathering of great music her father had built up for his work as a cinematographer. These records starred Americans, both Nigerian and African classics lovers, of which includes musical greats in the likes of Marvin Gaye, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, King Sunny Adé, Diana Ross, Nina Simone, and Miriam Makeba as well. 2004 marked the year Asa met her manager and friend by name Janet Nwose, who intoduced her to Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo, who became the producer of her first studio album Asa (Asha) in subsequent years.
Aṣa then went back to France when she was 20 to study at the school of Jazz music IMFP, where she was advice extensively by teachers that she ought to take the bull by the horn and become a recording artist because she was ready and needed no schooling and considering the fact tat there are lots if prospect in it. Back then in Nigeria, her debut single, “Eyé Adaba,” was starting to get airplay. Aṣa later signed to the Naïve Records. It was partnered with Cobhams Asuquo, and with the huge involvement of top artist like Christophe Dupouy and Benjamin Constant, she produced her debut platinum selling self-titled album, Aṣa. After the release of the album which saw Aṣa in a chart with radios across Europe, Asia and Africa and she also went on to win the distinguished French Constantin Award in the year 2008, she won the proze for the best fresh talent of 10 singers or groups by a jury of nineteen music-industry specialists in Paris.

Beautiful Imperfection, together with French composer Nicolas Mollard was her 2nd album, which was released on the 25th of October 2010, went platinum in the year 2011. The lead single from the album Beautiful Imperfection is titled “Be My Man” was released on the 6 month of the of the year 2010. it had also been reported that by the year 2014 Aṣa sold over 400,000 albums worldwide.
Asa’s studio album which is the third titled “Bed of Stone”, was released in August year 2014. The singles are “Dead Again”, “Eyo”, “Satan Be Gone”, “The One That Never Comes” and “Moving On”. She later went on a world tour from year 2015 to 2017.
On the 14th of May 2019, she released a new single which was titled “The Beginning” and on the 25th of 2019 she released the singles which was titled “Good Thing”. On the 11th of September 2019, Asa announced on her Twitter page that her new album, Lucid, will be released on the 11th of October 2019. faithful to her words, the album was then released on the 11th of October 2019.
