Davido attended Oakwood University, Huntsville, Alabama, United State where he studied Business Administration. Davido’s interest in music started during his time at Oakwood University. He purchased his musical instruments and started the process of beat making though as an amateur. OBO was so engrossed into building his music career and this started taking its toll in his education and he started scoring bad grades after which he relocated to London, where he focused more of his energy towards vocals as opposed to music production.
Fast forward to 2011, Davido returned to Nigeria, his father being a disciplinarian plus judging from his status, he opposed Davido’s music career and opined he would only support it should Davido get a proper university Education. Davido consented to this and enrolled at Babcock University, while still doing music on a part time basis.
In July 2015, the HKN Music boss earned a degree in music from Babcock university after his father in his usual philanthropist nature, donated a music department for an inaugural class of one, of course, Davido.
Davido’s rise to fame couldn’t be complete without his bosom friend Shizzi! Shizzi was a young chap with enormous talents in beat making, at an event, Nigerian Entertainment Conference 2015 edition organized by The Net, where Davido and Shizzi were invited to produce a song live before the audience, Shizzi revealed to the crowd the secret behind his unique beats and how he mixes tunes that connects to the emotional part of the human mind and by so doing, connects your soul.
Davido’s collaboration with Shizzi cannot be overemphasized as their pairing and understanding was divine. Davido catapulted into limelight from his hit single “Dami Duro” which according to him was inspired by the harassment from the Nigerian police force on his way home alongside Shizzi (his producer) and Karmal (his former manager) which ensued into a heated argument where dared the police to arrest him while asking them if they knew who he was? Knowing he’s the one and only OBO he reminded the police they lacked the power and guts to arrest him unjustly knowing he had done no wrong and that he couldn’t be intimidated as he is the son of a rich man!
He further revealed that upon getting home, and based on the incidence, he was inspired to write the hit song “Dami Duro” and in one night, they (Davido and Shizzi) recorded the song in Davido’s room. He again stated that the song to him never was supposed to be commercialized, rather, to tell Nigerians his ordeal in the hands of the police and at the same time showcase his talent and what he had to offer in the Nigerian Music industry.
Prior to that and making best use of his opportunity, owing to the fact his father is wealthy, Davido reached out to D’banj and other known artistes for collaboration as a way of showcasing his talents and gathering quick recognition from the masses knowing the difficulties attached to bursting into limelight, he was subsequently turned down despite offering to pay the agreed amount, this didn’t deter him from pursuing his dream. In life, opportunities do not present themselves, go get it and even if it does, expect challenges, but most importantly, never give up. That is the attribute of a go getter irrespective of your financial background just as proven by Davido.
Between 2013 and 2015, the DMW Boss had already been able stamp his feet on the ground with the release of multiple hit songs Gobe, Skelewu and the evergreen Ayé released on the 2nd of February 2014, produced by T Spize.
