The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has officially commenced the sale of application forms for admission into the following postgraduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session under the Institute of Niger Delta Studies (INDS):
- Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Security and Intelligence Studies
- Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Security and Intelligence Studies
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Security and Intelligence Studies
- Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Blue Economy and Maritime Studies
- Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Blue Economy and Maritime Studies
About the Institute of Niger Delta Studies (INDS)
Established in June 2011, the Institute of Niger Delta Studies was created to develop highly skilled professionals with strong analytical, conceptual, and critical thinking abilities. These skills prepare graduates for competitive career opportunities and enable them to contribute meaningfully to solving both local and global industrial and societal challenges.
The Institute also focuses on producing experts capable of:
- Addressing and analyzing security issues in the Niger Delta and the wider global context.
- Providing solutions to challenges in marine and coastal environments.
- Promoting sustainable development, conservation, and preservation of ocean ecosystems and coastlines.
Programmes and Admission Requirements
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Security and Intelligence Studies
- Open to candidates with at least a Third-Class degree or HND (Upper Credit) from UNIPORT or any other recognized university.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Security and Intelligence Studies
- Applicants must have at least a Second-Class Honours degree in any discipline from UNIPORT or other recognized institutions.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Security and Intelligence Studies
- Requires a Master’s degree in Security and Intelligence Studies, Sociology, or Law, with a minimum CGPA of 3.50.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Blue Economy and Maritime Studies
- Open to candidates with a Third-Class degree or HND (Upper Credit) in any discipline.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Blue Economy and Maritime Studies
- Open to applicants with at least a Second-Class Honours degree in any of the following fields:
Geography, Environmental Management, Economics, Animal and Environmental Biology, Plant Science and Biotechnology, Animal Science, Crop Science, Transport, Logistics, or Management Sciences.
Duration of Programmes
- PGD: 12 months (Full-Time)
- M.Sc.: 12 months (Full-Time) or 24 months (Part-Time)
- Ph.D.: 24 months (Full-Time) or 36 months (Part-Time)
