The Lagos State University Centre for Afro-Brazilian Studies (LASUCAS) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into its various academic and professional programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session. The Centre is dedicated to promoting Afro-Brazilian studies while equipping students with skills in Portuguese, Brazilian culture, and Yoruba language for global opportunities.
Available Programmes
1. CELPE-Bras Training Programme (Scholarship in Brazil)
This intensive training prepares candidates for the CELPE-Bras examination, which is the gateway to securing fully funded undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships in Brazil across various disciplines.
Requirements:

Five (5) credits in WAEC/SSCE.

Age: 17–23 years for undergraduate scholarship applicants.

A minimum of Second Class Lower Division for postgraduate applicants.
Duration: Six (6) months.
2. Diploma in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies
This diploma provides foundational knowledge of Portuguese language and Brazilian studies, serving as a direct pathway into the Degree in Portuguese/English at LASU.
Requirements:

At least four (4) credits including English at not more than two sittings.

OR three (3) credits at one sitting plus five (5) years of work experience.

OR mature candidates above 35 years with three (3) credits at one sitting.
Duration: Four (4) semesters on part-time basis (two academic sessions).
3. Certificate in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies
Ideal for individuals intending to travel, study, or work in Portuguese-speaking (Lusophone) countries. This certificate also qualifies graduates for direct entry into the Diploma programme.
Requirements:

Three (3) credits including English at not more than two sittings.

OR three (3) credits at one sitting plus five (5) years relevant work experience.
Duration: Six (6) months part-time (two modules of three months each).
4. Proficiency Certificate in Yoruba (For Non-Native Speakers)
Designed to train and immerse students in Yoruba language, literature, and culture. It is especially targeted at Brazilians, Portuguese, North Americans, and Nigerians in the diaspora.
Requirements:

Foreign applicants with a secondary school certificate or equivalent.

Nigerians with at least three (3) credits in WAEC/NECO or its equivalent.

Graduates of any discipline.

Mature candidates above 35 years or with at least 10 years of professional experience.
Note: A pass in Yoruba is not required for admission.
Duration: Eight (8) weeks, full-time.
