The Federal University Otuoke (FUO) was established in 2011 through an Act of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Located in the serene town of Otuoke, Bayelsa State, the University is committed to advancing academic excellence and innovation. FUO currently serves a dynamic student population of over 17,000 full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students, supported by a dedicated staff strength of more than 2,000 academic and non-academic personnel.

🩺 Position Title: Director of Health Services

The University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Director of Health Services. This is a leadership role responsible for the overall administration and management of the University’s Medical Centre.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Vice-Chancellor and will oversee the delivery of health care services to students, staff, and their families, ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice, public health, and medical administration.

🎓 Eligibility and Academic Qualifications

Applicants must possess the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), or an equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.

  • A valid NYSC Discharge Certificate or evidence of exemption.

  • At least five (5) O’Level credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in SSCE, NECO, WAEC, or GCE.

  • Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or its internationally recognized equivalent is mandatory.

  • A higher academic qualification (e.g., MSc, MPH, PhD) will be an added advantage.

  • Must be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

  • A minimum of 15 years post-qualification experience in clinical medicine and public health practice in a reputable health institution or university medical centre.

  • Proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is required.

  • Candidates should not be more than 60 years of age at the time of assuming office.

💼 Terms of Appointment and Conditions of Service

The appointment is tenured for an initial period of five (5) years, renewable for one additional year based on satisfactory performance and subject to approval by the University Governing Council in accordance with existing University statutes.

The position comes with competitive remuneration and conditions of service, as applicable to Directors of Health Services in Nigerian Federal Universities and as periodically updated by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Governing Council of FUO.
