Yabatech, a Federal polytechnic, established in 1947, it is the first higher institution in Lagos state, a fact not known to many. The polytechnic was previously known as Yaba Higher College.

Till date, Yaba Tech is ranks as number one on the list of top 10 best Polytechnics in Nigeria. It is among the few Polytechnics in Nigeria that awards B.Sc. certification (though this is limited to some courses)

The NBTE (National Board for Technical Education) is the agency of the Federal government of Nigeria responsible for approval of license and coordination of Colleges of Education and Polytechnics activities in Nigeria. Just like the NUC, the NBTE has the power to approve and disapprove courses offered in any Polytechnic (State and Federal)

Without deviating from the focal point of this post, we thought it necessary to bring to your finger tips, the have listed the list of all accredited courses offered in Yabatech and the admission requirements, therefore prospective students who chose Yaba college of Technology as their preferred choice of polytechnic during the UTME registration are advised to go through the information as seen below for confirmation.

It would be worthy to note that Yabatech offers OND , HND and Post HND courses and admission into this Polytechnic is strictly by merit.

The duration of these programmes are 2 years each and upon completion, successful students are awarded a certificate.

Do you know that a graduate of YABATECH (HND holder) is currently rated on the same scale educationally with a B.Sc. degree holder?

At some points, there was clamour for the polytechnic to be upgraded and approved by the senate to award full time degree courses and certificate, this was turned down due to that fact that the initial purpose it was established would be defeated should the bill be passed and the general public was made to understand that YABATECH is in no way inferior to any university, however, some schools (Departments) were approved to award B.Sc degree only on some courses.
