LASU Shines Under Accreditation Spotlight for Nursing and Midwifery

On April 15, 2025, Lagos State University (LASU) rolled out the red carpet for the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) accreditation team, led by the formidable Professor Regina E. Ella. The visit, a pivotal moment for LASU’s Nursing and Midwifery programme, kicked off with a warm courtesy call at the Senate Chamber in the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Ojo Main Campus. Vice-Chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, set the tone with a heartfelt welcome, underscoring the visit’s role in cementing the programme’s quality, integrity, and global edge.

Professor Olatunji-Bello didn’t hold back, showcasing LASU’s arsenal: cutting-edge teaching facilities, a treasure trove of e-resources, and a dynamic blended learning environment tailored for student success. “We’re here to produce graduates who can compete anywhere in the world,” she declared, radiating confidence in a stellar accreditation outcome. She pledged LASU’s full support, ensuring the NMCN team had everything needed for a smooth evaluation. The baton was then passed to Professor Olufemi Idowu, Provost of LASU College of Medicine (LASUCOM), as the team dove into their mission.

LASU Gets Accreditation for Nursing and Midwifery

By April 16, at the exit meeting, Professor Ella was singing LASU’s praises. She lauded the warm hospitality from both the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and LASUCOM in Ikeja, calling the university a rising star in Nursing and Midwifery education. Ella tipped her hat to Professor Olatunji-Bello’s visionary leadership, noting LASU’s trajectory toward greatness. But it wasn’t all applause—she flagged the need for more staff to boost the programme’s efficiency, a point the Vice-Chancellor took in stride, promising swift action to address every concern.

The visit wrapped with Registrar Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu delivering a heartfelt vote of thanks, commending the NMCN team’s professionalism and invaluable feedback. The event saw LASU’s heavyweights in attendance, including Deputy Vice-Chancellors Professor Oseni Afisi (Academics) and Professor Adenike Boyo (Administration), Deputy Bursar Mr. Bisi Yusuf (representing Bursar Mr. Said Babatunde Olayinka), University Librarian Dr. Omawumi Makinde, and key figures from LASUCOM, the Academic Planning Unit, and the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

LASU’s Nursing and Midwifery programme is poised for global impact, and with Professor Olatunji-Bello at the helm, the university is ready to tackle any challenge to make it happen.
