  2. A candidate holding a professional master’s degree cannot gain direct admission to a PhD program. Professional master’s degrees typically lack a significant research component, which is essential for postgraduate students to develop. Consequently, such candidates will only be considered for an MPhil/PhD program, even if they meet the necessary Weighted Average (WA) or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) required for entry into a PhD program.
  3. A candidate admitted to an MPhil/PhD program is required to attain a cumulative weighted average of 60% in their MPhil Meeting this criterion enables a seamless transition to the PhD program without the need for re-application. The research conducted during the M.Phil phase acts as a cornerstone for the ensuing PhD thesis, facilitating a deeper and broader exploration of the research topic. However, failing to meet the minimum cumulative 60% weighted average requirement for progression to the PhD program will result in the award of a terminal MPhil degree.
  4. Candidates who do not meet the Weighted Average (WA) or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) criteria for MPhil/PhD or PhD programs may be advised to enroll in the MPhil terminal program. These individuals must satisfactorily complete their coursework, defend their dissertations, and subsequently have the option to re-apply for the PhD program if they achieve a 60% score in their MPhil program.
