LASU Introduces Full Automation for Deferment and Resumption of Studies

The Lagos State University (LASU) will officially launch the automated and e-processing system for deferment and resumption of studies from Monday, 18th August 2025.

This development, approved by the Vice Chancellor, is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate delays and challenges previously experienced in the manual process. By going digital, LASU aims to simplify the entire application and approval workflow, ensuring faster service delivery for students and staff.

Why the Change?

The old manual system often created unnecessary bottlenecks, such as:

  • Incorrect matriculation numbers linked to the wrong student names.

  • Mistakes in approving a full session deferment when only a semester was requested, and vice versa.

  • Wrong biodata details in request letters.

  • Delays in forwarding Senate decision extracts to relevant parties.

  • Non-receipt of Senate approvals by intended recipients.

  • Slow processing before COPDD and Senate consideration.

  • Lack of timely feedback to students.

  • Late medical assessments for cases requiring professional input.

With the new automated system, these issues will be greatly reduced. Once the Senate approves a request, Faculty Deans can instantly implement the deferment or resumption, and the update will immediately reflect on the student’s profile.

How to Apply for Deferment (Full-Time Undergraduate Students)

Step 1 : Visit https://lasu.edu.ng/deferment

Step 2 : Enter your Matriculation Number and Surname.

Step 3 : Click Apply.

Step 4 : Select the Session you wish to defer.

Step 5 : Select the Semester you wish to defer.

Step 6 : State your reason for deferment.

Step 7 : If applying on medical grounds, upload the required medical documents.

Step 8 : Click Submit.

Step 9 : Track your application progress via Check Application Status.

For Faculty and Department Heads

Specific guidelines for Heads of Departments (HoDs) and Deans will be sent to their official emails before close of business today.

Important Notice

All stakeholders are encouraged to fully adopt this automated platform, as the Vice Chancellor has directed that manual deferment and resumption processing is now abolished. This digital approach is expected to greatly improve efficiency, transparency, and response times across the university.
