The National Universities Commission has on the 18th of February 2021 given Babcock University, Ogun state the license to run open distance and e-learning degree programmes nationwide. Babcock University has joined the likes of Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU) as the second and only two private universities in Nigeria licensed to run an ODL programmes amongst over 75 private universities and more than 90 Federal and State universities put together.
Babcock university ODL degree programmes approval is made possible based on the validated status recommended by the National Universities Commission, NUC in association with professionals of Open & Distance Learning.
Babcock University Centre for Open, Distance & E-Learning of Babcock University, BUCoDEL as it will be fondly called was met with congratulatory messages from the NUC’s Deputy Executive Secretary, Academics, Dr. Suleiman Ramon-Yusuf. He showed his satisfaction at the approval of the university’s Open, Distance & E-Learning commencement of academic activities which was followed by due process.
Babcock University Centre for Open, Distance & E-Learning of Babcock University, BUCoDEL will now commence with the following programme below:
- BSc Accounting programme via the ICT-Enabled Supported Blended Learning model of Open, Distance & E-Learning (ODL).
In addition of new programme listed above, the introduction of new courses will be on individual programme basis, subject to NUC’s pre-assessment and approval. The NUC’s approval has not only marked a giant stride for Babcock as Nigeria’s first private university, but also concretizes the Babcock University Centre for Open, Distance & E-Learning’s preparedness to raise the stakes of education in Nigeria with the prerequisite facilities and resources to run ODL programmes professionally.
The Vice Chancellor in person of Professor Tayo has consistently affirmed the administration’s determination to uphold the Babcock University institutional core values in the Centre’s operations of the Open, distance and E-Learning programme in Nigeria. For BUCoDEL’s Director, Prof. Mobola Sotunsa, the long wait is over and the journey of excellence has started.
